Day off...

“You shall keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, given in order that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you." Exodus 31:13

I literally love the practicality of theology, the ability to apply it in a tangible way, every principle, each aspect and all of its content in a holistic manner. The Bible gives us many opportunities and signs where we can see its full purpose and reason not only for its existence but particularly for ours. There is no better way to illustrate and express the practicality of our Bible than the Sabbath day.

No other culture has distorted and violated such a critical command from God, thus turning our American dream into a nightmare through rebellion and idolatry of the gift instead of the Giver. The Sabbath day is not, like many other principles in the Bible, something that God wants from us; but instead, it is a gift provided by our Heavenly Father.

The Sabbath (day of rest) gives us the opportunity to convey to our forever materialist world that we fully depend on what the Lord decides and unfolds in our midst. Our generation has the opportunity to simply convey to the world that our God feeds his people with 6 days of work. The Sabbath day is definitely about us, God wanted something for us. It really represents our dependency and trust on the God who owns it all.
