The notion of the call to preach...
- Who am I to preach?
- Who are you?
- What right do we have to presume that?
- Comforted by Jeremiah 1:9
- Jeremiah felt inadequate - because he was
- “I have put my words in your mouth.”
- I doesn’t matter who I am
- What matters is whose words are in my mouth.
- If I am enunciating God’s word in my mouth
- I can be as inadecuate as i am
- That’s not a problem
- that’s not a barrier
- but that’s where the power comes down if the words are His
For someone who is overwhelmed with his inadequacies as a preacher, how do you comfort him base on this passage and other passages?
- I don’t know how I can get out of bed in the morning,
- much less preach without 2 Corinthians 12:10
- For when I am weak, then I am strong.
- For the sake of Christ - the reason of my inadequacy
- when His power rests upon us
- is for the sake of His adequacy
- our inadequacies are not a problem God has to work around
- but they are a part of God’s strategy
- He makes us inadequate so His power can rest upon us
- I don’t want to live my life in the power of the flesh
- come to the end of my life and find out it counted for nothing
- The sooner I discover my weaknesses, the better
