The Call to Preach by Dustin Neely & Ray Ortlund

The notion of the call to preach...
  • Who am I to preach?
  • Who are you?
  • What right do we have to presume that?
  • Comforted by Jeremiah 1:9
    • Jeremiah felt inadequate - because he was
    • “I have put my words in your mouth.”
  • I doesn’t matter who I am
  • What matters is whose words are in my mouth.
  • If I am enunciating God’s word in my mouth
  • I can be as inadecuate as i am
  • That’s not a problem
  • that’s not a barrier
  • but that’s where the power comes down if the words are His

For someone who is overwhelmed with his inadequacies as a preacher, how do you comfort him base on this passage and other passages?

  • I don’t know how I can get out of bed in the morning,
  • much less preach without 2 Corinthians 12:10
    • For when I am weak, then I am strong.
  • For the sake of Christ - the reason of my inadequacy
  • when His power rests upon us
    • is for the sake of His adequacy
  • our inadequacies are not a problem God has to work around
    • but they are a part of God’s strategy
  • He makes us inadequate so His power can rest upon us
    • I don’t want to live my life in the power of the flesh
    • come to the end of my life and find out it counted for nothing
  • The sooner I discover my weaknesses, the better
